Eye Conditions and Treatment

Astigmatism is treated in the Contact Lens Service and the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Faculty Practice

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is characterized by an irregular curvature of the cornea. It is a condition in which objects, both near and distant, appear blurred. The cornea and lens of the eye should be spherical. However, the eye of a person with astigmatism is shaped more like a football or the back of a spoon. Astigmatism occurs in nearly everybody to some degree. For significant curvature, treatment is required.
