Drs. McMahon, Joslin and Shorter have more than 52 years of combined experience as faculty at the UIC Contact Lens Service, primarily providing care to patients requiring medically necessary contact lenses. The doctors in the UIC Contact Lens Service are known nationally for their clinical and research expertise, and their ability to help patients with various complex corneal diseases including Keratoconus, Post-Corneal Transplant, Dry Eye Syndrome, Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency, Sjögren's Syndrome, Neurotrophic Keratitis, Corneal Scarring, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Post-LASIK, and Aphakia, to name a few. Doctors at the UIC Contact Lens Service have extensive experience with all types of medically necessary contact lenses including scleral, hybrid and rigid contact lenses, as well as customized soft contact lenses, and both Drs. McMahon and Joslin are Diplomates in the Section on Cornea, Contact Lenses and Refractive Technologies of the American Academy of Optometry. In addition, the UIC Contact Lens Service is the only Chicago-area provider and one of eleven sites in the United States to offer BostonSight PROSE treatment, in which Dr. Shorter provides PROSE devices for patients with severely compromised ocular function as a result of complex corneal disease.
