Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a tick-borne disease that often goes unrecognized until it has affected many parts of the body, including the eyes. Involvement of the eye is uncommon in lyme disease. However, when the eyes are affected, conjunctivitis (pink eye) is often the first symptom.

Signs and Symptoms

  • Eyes are red and uncomfortable
  • Discharge of pus
  • Inflammation of the eye

Treatment and Prevention

  • Oral antibiotics
  • Intravenous antibiotics
